Kaizen vs Kaikaku

As we all know, Kaizen is an important weapon in the Lean Methodology arsenal which focuses on bringing about small incremental improvements in production/business processes over a period of time. The emphasis is primarily on solving team or process related problems.
But apart from Lean Practitioners and people who possess some knowledge about Lean principles, very few people know that Lean has another concept known as Kaikaku which emphasizes on bringing about radical change in production/business processes in a very short time period of time. The improvement in processes can be as high as 30% to 50%, brought primarily by factors such as installation of new equipment, process re-designing, new production methods & strategies, etc.
